The use of lime quicklime is critical for local small-scale manufacturing, yet consistency in purity remains a significant challenge for local operators.
The climatic conditions of Gambia, marked by high humidity and distinct rainy seasons, accelerate the carbonation of stored lime oxide, leading to efficacy loss. This environmental factor necessitates specialized packaging and high-reactivity products that can perform under tropical stress.
Furthermore, as the Gambian government pushes for agricultural modernization, there is an increasing transition toward using calcium oxide used in agriculture to combat soil acidity, particularly in the riverine areas where nutrient leaching is prevalent.
